Washing tips for your favorite jeans

The look of jeans is achieved through a variety of washing methods and mechanical processes. Irregular color fade, holes , or tears are desired and deliberately produced.

Dark jeans models can rub off on light colors (e.g. underwear, seat covers, shorts , skin, ...) and should therefore be washed before wearing

General washing tips

Jeans should always be washed inside out at a maximum of 30°C using a detergent for colors or delicates (does not contain optical brighteners). Normally, however, 30°C is sufficient. The washing machine should not be overfilled, as this will cause streaks to form. Fabric softener should be avoided, as it will damage stretch jeans and cause the fabric to lose its color more quickly. After washing, turn the jeans right side out, shake them well, and pull them into the correct shape. Always line dry jeans and avoid direct sunlight, as this will cause the color to fade. Ironing is possible, but not necessary, as the fabric smooths itself out with wear. If ironing, turn the jeans inside out and use the cotton setting.

Dark Denim

Dark jeans can bleed onto other garments and should be washed before first wearing – preferably separately or with other dark jeans.

Stretch jeans

Stretch jeans can stretch up to half a size. They should never be tumble dried, and fabric softener should be avoided, as this will damage the synthetic fibers and cause them to warp. Ironing should be avoided or only done at a very low temperature.

Raw Denim

Raw denim (unwashed jeans) can initially bleed color, so always buy a size larger, as the fabric will shrink. To prevent shrinkage, it's best to have raw jeans dry-cleaned. If you do wash them, be sure to put them in the washing machine individually at first, as the denim loses a lot of color. Some jeans enthusiasts wear their raw jeans for six months before washing them for the first time—this creates a unique and highly individual used look .
